Juan of the Dead

The movie is billing itself with the tag line “When Zombies invade Cuba… Capitalism Rises”. This may be one of those must see zombie flicks. Here is the official webpage for the movie Juan of the Dead.  Alejandro Brugués is the director and he says the film asks the question “if we (in Cuba) were so different from zombies.” This is a Cuban made film so I don’t expect open commentary against the government, but it may be worth watching. Getting the Cuban perspective on zombies will be interesting.

The Eastenders meet the Zombie Apocalypse

The Eastenders meet the Zombie Apocalypse

What is it that warms the hearts so much when you see people in Great Britain using firearms and enjoying the hell out of it? Shaun of the Dead would have been a much better movie with the application of a little fire power and in Simon Peg’s next movie Hot Fuzz he learned that lesson. Brits plugging away with guns just seems right. Bugger their socialist nanny state. Our cousins across the waves deserve the right to carry heat.

I really like the clip and if the movie lives up to this trailer I may have a new favorite zombie flick. It doesn’t hurt the film that I have a fetish for tough brunette chicks with British accents. Looking at the trailer I have an even bigger fetish for tough brunette British chicks who kill zombies with a HK.

You will notice that Michelle Ryan is in this movie. She was the one showing the elderly how to load an Uzi. She has been in several top shelf British science fiction and fantasy shows for the BBC such as  Doctor Who, Merlin, and Jekyll. She also starred in the short lived reboot of the Bionic women, but don’t hold that against her.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship- This Doctor Who Trailer is Awesome

This trailer packs a punch and includes scenes from what is probably the first attempt at showing dinosaurs on the show since the not so successful attempt back in the 1970s with Invasion of the Dinosaurs.  As an archaeologist I have an obligation to say this now…. we don’t dig up dinosaurs, Sorry, I am asked about dinosaurs all the time. I do love those ancient creatures however almost as much as I love the good Doctor. I can’t wait to see the Doctor deal with them this season.

I love Doctor Who ever since the first moment I saw my first episode which was The Talons of Weng-Chiang and Tom Baker swept the twelve year old me away to far off worlds and exotic times. Doctor Who is probably the reason I became an archaeologist (that seemed to be the reason River Song became one as well…Hmmm). I have always wanted to travel in time and space. Archaeology was the only career besides astronaut that was even remotely similar to being a Time Lord.

Tom Baker will always be my Doctor but Matt Smith is fast becoming the frenetic madman that the Doctor once was and may now be again. I will be counting the days until this airs.

Yes, I am a nerd and a fanboy when it comes to Dr. Who….I even had a subscription to Doctor Who Magazine as a teen. It was maddening to read about episodes of Doctor Who I would not see on PBS for another two or three years.
